Survey: City split on immigration
The headline should read "Survey: City Split on ILLEGAL Immigration". I don't think that there is much of a controversy over legal immigration.

To the person who wrote the first post: unfortunately, I would hardly consider sidewalk urination a problem restricted to undocumented immigrants. I guess we'll have to find another solution to that problem.
Scapegoating never gets us anywhere.
The comment made by Kiko Matos, a New Haven city employee is so typical of people who condone or sponsor illegal activity by saying it "Should" be this way so we will ignore laws created by our legislative process until we get our way, hey, nobody is doing anything about it so lets continue our bad behavior!
She has the nerve and or ignorance to say it is up to residents and local legislators to establish and enforce immigration policy. Thankfully I don't pay taxes to the city of New Haven, if I did I would be calling the Mayors office asking for her resignation.
Mayor DeStefano should ultimately be held liable for any crimes or injuries to its citizenry committed by Illegal Aliens on his watch.
He has openly condoned and even welcomed activity clearly in defiance and disobedience of Federal and State law.
The Mayor is walking a fine line of tolerance, look at what happened to Governor Spitzer when he took it one step too far; trying to grant drivers licenses to Illegal Immigrants.
I don't know why people continue to use the term "Undocumented", I am sure they are fully documented in their own country. If they are not here legitimately and legally they are illegal.
Chris Dodd is even getting on board and promising to enforce immigration laws.
I would enjoy being privy to some of the round table discussions between city mayors and Senator Dodd.
Roy Beck of www.numbersusa.com puts illegal immigration into a perspective that transcends political affiliation with his video titled "immigration by the numbers".
If America does not return to traditional levels of immigration we will literally become "Loved to death". Our failing infrastructure was never engineered to support population levels that will explode over the next 10-15 years.
If we do not return to traditional, replacement level, immigration we are going to become 3rd world, incapable of helping the 80% of countries that are more poor and deserving as Mexico.
California has to build one new school per day, in perpetuity, to keep up with the enrollment of illegal immigrants.
Four California hospitals went bankrupt last month, the Darien Connecticut hospital emergency room lost close to four million dollars last quarter due to compassionate care of "Undocumented" immigrants, best guess is 85% latin.
We must make a choice, either accept and embrace it or secure our borders and hold our representatives feet-to-the-fire and demand action.
The lasting effects of our action or lack thereof will directly affect the legacy we leave our children and grandchildren.
Pro Immigrant, Anti-Immigration Citizen
This piece sounds very much like the organizers did not get the result they wanted so they decided to play down the whole affair. We need some honest reporting about the social ills illegal immigration is causing in CT. We should hear from the people; not the mayor of New Haven and not the owners of businesses that want the cheap labor.
Let's hear from the people who are trying to use the emergency room; the schools that are being held back because they are trying to teach in two languages, the legal citizens who can't find work because salaries are being undercut by the illegals, the cultural changes such as men urinating from the sidewalk. …..the list goes on and on.
Come on; surely there is one reporter out there with the courage to tell the real story.
