Um, actually, I think he was making fun of Yale -- he clearly doesn't think or believe that Bingham built Machu Picchu, nor does he think that Bingham made its artifacts. Nor does he think that Peru has no culture. He's pointing out the opposite -- that, when compared to Peru, Yale his zero claim to the artifacts, and that the University seems colonialist because, well, it is acting like it, in this case.
I believe the word is 'irony'.

As a Peruvian I thank you for showing us your support with this article and on this issue. It's good to see Yale has some decent people, and not only produces subjects like Hiram Bingham, George W. Bush, or the ones wanting to hold our cultural patrimony forever in Yale.
I'm sorry for comment #2, but I hope you understand it comes from how disgusting is all this situation for us or anyone who loves my country. If Yale has any morals, it must return to us EVERY single artifact as well as our RIGHTS to them! PERU is the only OWNER! Geez!
Also...Hiram Bingham didn't "discover" Machu Picchu, we knew about it before he landed here! We are sick of hearing that...and sick of being treated like "cholitos" by Yale!
Thanks for your article. I knew there had to be people at Yale that are disgusted by their institution lack of morals. Yale, choose what's right, it difficult, but it is right. For a hundred years you, the institution, have kept articles that do not belong to you, you probably got used to believing they are yours, but they are not. Give them back and be proud.
