Like any good documentary, “Beyond Borders: The Debate Over Human Migration” seeks to shed new light on an important, controversial topic and its less obvious but very relevant implications; it scours in search of diverse opinions on a given matter. In this case, the film struggles to answer the question: “Is it a basic human right to migrate?”

Gracias for the plug, Melissa! Bit of advice: advertising yourself as the daughter of an illegal immigrant does absolutely nothing to bolster your argument. I'm the son of an illegal immigrant, too, and my quote is muy relevant to me. So who's right?

In case anyone else out there hasn't made a film and doesn't realize the incredible calculation involved in choosing every piece of dialogue, shot, or statement as Melissa seems to be unaware... Yes, the humor was intentional. I created Beyond Borders as a vehicle to usher some humanity into this fiery debate. If I had spent 90 minutes showing undocumented immigrants dead in the desert or victims of migrant's crimes, maybe I would be like most other films on immigration and left people feeling hopeless. My attempt was to add splashes of humor and sarcasm so we can laugh at ourselves a bit and realize that we all can relate to the absurdity of some people's thoughts on the topic. After all, should we really criticize filmmakers for making films that are... entertaining as well as informative? Yes Melissa, the sarcasm of my editing choices was intentional, and I appreciate your review of the film.
