‘One World, One Dream’ falls flat in Potemkin China
I don't have much time, but a few immediate thoughts -
Wait a minute.
So, no other host country has been guilty of trying its best to showcase its country in the most positive light in order to project a positive world image with the hopes of increasing global influence? Let's be real. Isn't that the goal of almost every single nation in bidding for the Games?
Take, for example, Australia in 2000, the country that had an entire orchestra "lip-sync" during its own Opening Ceremonies. Better yet, take the United States in 1996, which painted Atlanta, Georgia - of all places - as a haven of safety, cleanliness, and friendliness. I could go on and on.
Additionally, some of your facts are horribly taken out of context. For example, you talk about how China will soon be the world's greatest polluter. While that comment may not be patently false, even an ardent environmentalist would argue that per capita pollution is the most accurate and fair way to measure a country's pollution. By that standard, it'll take a while before China "catches up" to the West.
Anyways, I highly suggest you step back from your Westernized (read: slightly imperialist and very ignorant) mindset before evaluating another country's culture, politics, and society. Without question, China has its problems, but, as your article seems to indicate, so does your reasoning.
One has to wonder why & how this type of extreme view to another country can be formed by a college freshman. Yale student should not cut & paste from new commentators like Lou Bobbs, you have to form your true opinion by yourself, make sense?
However, this article does relect an alarming reality that a huge knowledge gap existed between US and China. The knowledge gap here shall mean that US perceptions about China is still framed at 1989 when the China had Tiananmen student demonstrations.

China already is a great power of the world regardless what the west say. China's match towards greatness will continue for very long time! Just look at the huge investment that China has made in science and technology. No any country can match. All west can do to is to pick on China little here and there, like ants bite elephant.
