When Camp Yale became Facebook in the flesh
But if you're getting all the facebook information beforehand, it changes how you think when you do finally meet people. I'd definitely believe that it changes how you relate to people and even who you choose to relate to.
One of the most important parts about meeting new people (and something I struggle with, constantly) is not prejudging them too much. Facebook is the opposite of that: we think we know what its information tells us, but we can't possibly be as right as we think we are. So someone lists Atlas Shrugged as their favorite book. Yeah, probably, I'll want to write them off, but maybe I don't. And if I already know about the Rand fandom from facebook, I already will have, and the chance that this person is still worth knowing is gone.

But is facebook really a replacement for real-life friends for some people? For most people I know, at least, it seems like a supplement. The flesh friends are still there. Facebook is just a way to network with (and get more information about) others.
