Akash Maharaj will serve five years of probation for stealing some $31,000 in Yale financial aid, but he will avoid jail time if he pays the University back in full. The former Morse College junior, who was kicked out of Yale in the summer of 2007 and arrested the following September for forging his application for admission, was sentenced Friday in New Haven Superior Court following a plea bargain last May.

"Stealing English classes" is a big deal.

We pay a lot for those classes, and our professors and grad students are among the best in the world.

Even after being convicted, he still sounds like a whiny, spoiled brat who hasn't learned his lessen. This kid isn't the least bit repentent and appears to still be in denial that he did anything wrong.

Sounds like the judge was too lenient with him.

What a jerk--and his boyfriend too.

They should get back together--made for each other.

He is in good convicted felon company. Kwame Kilpatrick 3x felon and equally non-repentant. This m'fer doesn't deserve to have his record expunged. Had he been remorseful, he might have deserved some mercy, but he calls it all a joke.

The base of it is lying. I have a six year old and when he lies I put soap in his mouth. He learns a better lesson than this guy.

Harvard is a beautiful school with a long standing tradition of pride. I don't live anywhere near there. I will never have the honor of attending;however as a Registrar at a college I would say good for him. You lie anywhere, you are out!

Harvard, Financial Aid, or self pay your are OUT!
