QPac official speaks, students fire back
Bravo to the Yale Daily for standing up for fellow student journalists and freedom of the press. The actions by the school administration are shameful. Keep the pressure on!
Thanks to the Yale Daily News for their continued coverage of this story.
Why does the Quad News need "access" to athletes and administrators beyond what other journalists receive?
Does the existing student print publication get special "access" because it's a student organization?
If so, that's a stupid arrangement.
If we're just talking about things like getting a seat in the press box or a press pass to go into locker rooms to interview players, then the Quad News should apply just like the other media outlets around Quinnipiac.
In response to Dan, from what I know, the sports players, coaches, etc have been advised NOT to talk to someone who is doing a story from the Quad News.
The Quad News doesn't want any special treatment.
It's gone beyond the level of access allowed to Quad News. Bushnell's memo last week was a vicious and petty attack that was likely meant to characterize Quad News in a negative light to anyone who accepts her version of events. She was often vague and frankly dishonest.
I am a senior, print journalism major at Quinnipiac and would just like to say thank you to the Yale Daily News for covering this issue, as well as everyone for commenting.
I am writing an article for one of my classes about this issue and would love if I would be able to quote any of you. The dilemma between the administration and Quad News is not only with our online newspaper, but for all journalism students at Quinnipiac. There have been several occasions where I needed quotes for a class assignment and I was unable to speak with any administrator. Many journalists would find this extremely nerve wracking.
Please let me know if you would be willing to comment on this issue, I would greatly appreciate anyone's input. You can contact me at tmfilomio@quinnipiac.edu.
Thank you.
Nothing like threatening a ban to try to silence freedom of speech. King George of Great Britan would have been proud.
Quinnipiac is stuck in the 1960's. The student revolution of the 1970's hasn't come to this backwater on the cusp of the Sleeping Giant yet. Maybe it's just beginning. Wake up administrators. It's 2008.
