The greatest feeling in sports is winning a championship. Teams train and compete all season with that singular end in mind. What is the second greatest feeling in sports, you ask? Certainly not finishing in second place, because that means you lost to whoever placed first. No, the second greatest feeling in sports comes when your team can play the spoiler, taking away someone else’s chance at a championship and bringing them down with you into second rate status.

When such a spoiler opportunity is combined with an already heated rivalry game, the game can only be classified as epic. Such an opportunity awaits the women’s basketball team on Saturday night against first-place Harvard (17-9, 10-2 Ivy). With a Bulldog win, Cornell (17-8, 9-3) or Dartmouth (12-14, 9-3) would tie Harvard for first in the standings, forcing a playoff to determine the Ivy League champion. The Crimson went to the NCAA Tournament last year, and the Elis should do everything in their power to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

The bottom line: This game is the most compelling women’s basketball game John J. Lee Amphitheater has seen in some time. The stars do not align to produce these circumstances often. Every Bulldog fan should make it their duty to head out and cheer on guard Stephanie Marciano ’08 on Senior Night and the rest of the Bulldogs and embrace the second greatest feeling in sports.
