It's official: Emma Watson is going to Brown
It's official: Emma Watson is going to Brown University.
Pity.
Watson has been quiet about what school she will attend in the fall, although her "Harry Potter" co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, let slip earlier this month in an interview with The Guardian that the actress had decided on Brown. Watson herself confirmed the decision in an interview with Paste Magazine, saying she will...
I don't really care that she's not going to be here, but I can't help but wonder...why would anyone choose Brown over Yale?
Ask Watson. She chose Brown over Yale, as have not a few others. Probably it was to avoid shallow types like you. What's certain is that she sensed she'd be happier (and less mauled) at Brown.
As one of the most famous people on Earth she's way beyond brand name, 2010. Her decision was wonderfully unencumbered by the stuff that turns you on. She chose Brown for its curriculum and her educational preference, obviously, and has said as much in interviews, just shy of uttering the words "Brown Curriculum."
because brown is a very good school with no requirements (ideal for someone whose educational background has been as weird and chaotic as hers), because providence is sweet, and because some people choose fit over prestige?
Wow, did you all get rejected by Brown or something? If you want to study literature, particularly English literature, you don't choose Brown over Yale. End of story. Classics, for sure you choose Brown, but based on this one YDN article, it doesn't sound like that's what she's going for.
I find it striking that you all jumped on a fellow Yalie for supposedly only being interested in "brand names," when you really had very little on which to base that assumption. What does that say about yourselves and your own motivations? You all chose Yale, after all.
It's the original 2010 here, the one most of you are targeting--
I want you to know that my remark was ENTIRELY facetious. Just exhibiting some over-the-top school pride--as we all do from time to time. I strongly considered going to Brown myself, but in the end liked Yale's residential college style more than Brown's housing system, and actually wanted a little more structure in the curriculum than Brown would have provided. So do realize that it's not all about the name of the school; sometimes choosing Yale over Brown can still be about fit rather than name. It's not really like Brown is an unknown name anyway. If proving that you don't care about prestige is all you care about, you choose St. John's in Annapolis over Yale, not Brown over Yale.
I do greatly admire Watson's decision to continue her education when she didn't have to, and I hope she has as happy and normal an experience at Brown as I have had at Yale.
Anyway, the guy above me is right. You do all seem to be pretty bitter. Deep breaths! Laugh a little! It was all a joke anyway...
Unless they didn't, of course. Probably just bitter/smug Brown trolls. At the end of the day, yes, it's all about personal fit... but that's not to say someone can't find personal fit at supposedly "brand name" schools like Yale. I did, so haters can bugger off.
"And while she visited the University twice, Watson never actually finished her application and formally applied, officials in the Admissions Office said."
Did somebody at the AO violate Yale's confidentiality poilicy is is this a fictional quote? Does one have to finish an application for it to be confidential?
Additionally, Yale has a much better theater program. Which she indicated would be of interest to her. It must not have been that high of a priority though...Oh well.
Lets face it: while Yale is predominantly a girly school, Brown is even MORE of a girly school - as measured by the fraction of the applicant pool that is female.
To "Observer",
Yeah, I wondered about those loose-lipped AO officials, too, but I don't think YDN made up the quote. Probably the AO is allowed to divulge that Miss X didn't apply if in fact Miss X didn't apply. It's odd though because Watson visited twice. Or should I care? Sorry, but I'm a fan.
(yes, all schools are girly schools nowadays.)
if i may put in my two cents, there was perhaps a less publicized curricular influence on hermione's decision: she wants to read english literature and paint and draw and design clothes. she can do three of those things at yale and brown, but for fashion design she'll need the rhode island school of design, where brownies may cross-register (or can you do fashion at yale, too?). and allow me to assert, in an undefensive way, that brown and brown/trinity rep compose another great theatre department (its showbiz network being known as the brown mafia) -- so good in fact that yale stole paula vogel from us last year. yale has jodie foster and the great edward norton, but brown has laura linney and john krazinski and soon emma watson. bow wow wow.
bad recruiting on yale's part
there is no confidentiality policy with non-applicants. obviously (?)
To observer...
So, what you're saying is that Emma watson was admitted to all the Ivy leagues -including Yale, Harvard and others- like she said? Can you be convinced? *laughs* What's your proof?
To those who asked about whether the Admissions Office violated any policies in disclosing that Emma Watson did not officially apply to Yale, I am afraid I do not have an answer for you. What I can tell you is that one of our reporters submitted a question to the Admissions Office in May asking whether Watson had applied, and we were informed in reply that she had not. This was consistent with what other sources told us earlier in the year.

Inquire of Brown's Admission Office about whether or not to have admitted her into the university! Not only will the message of Brown but also those of Cambridge and Harvard you receive be the same, I suppose.
In addition, She must madly study English so as to make her terrible grammar better if she truly applies to the Ivy Leagues - or even state universities in America. Whatever!
Howgozit curve: what does that even mean?
First of all, that's an amazingly pretty picture of her. Second of all, it's too bad she isn't heading this way as I too study literature and we probably would have immediately fallen in love. Third of all, the latest movie was so god awful I'm glad I don't have to meet her and lie about her brilliant performance. I found a good rant on the movie that satisfies all of my discontent.
