Police investigate shooting death of New Haven teen

New Haven police are investigating the shooting death on Wednesday of a city youth in the Newhallville neighborhood.

Officers responded to 425 Huntington St. at about 10:45 p.m. after a report of a shooting. In the back yard of that property, they found Markeith Strong, 16, of 429 Huntington St., suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

Strong was taken to the Hospital of St. Raphael, where he died just before midnight, police said.

Police said the case remained under investigation Thursday and that the circumstances of the shooting had not been established.
