Around New Haven | Public schools ranked at top in wellness

The Connecticut State Department of Education awarded New Haven Public Schools with the highest rating in the state for its School Wellness Plan, a city press release said Thursday. The Rudd Center for Health Policy at Yale University judged the districts on the basis of seven categories, ranging from nutrition education to physical activity. Superintendent of Schools Reginald Mayo said he was proud of the district’s policy and rating. “We have come a long way, and we are not done yet,” he said in the press release. A 2004 mandate required all Connecticut public school districts to write wellness policies by the 2006-’07 school year.
