Briefly: Medical school initiative will teach how to identify substance abusers

The Yale School of Medicine will become one of 11 schools across the country to introduce Screening, Brief, Intervention, Referral and Treatment (SBIRT) training — which will teach physicians-in-training how to identify and help individuals with substance-abuse problems — into its medical residency program. The program is being supported by a $1.8 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
