Briefly: NHPD officers mourn fallen colleague

Late Tuesday night, New Haven Police Department Sgt. Dario Aponte was killed in a car crash while responding to a call. Officer Diane Gonzalez was critically injured in the three-car collision, which occurred at the intersection of Chapel and East streets. Aponte, 43, had worked on the force for 17 years and was husband to Donna Aponte and father to four children. Last week, the NHPD unveiled a memorial for officers who fell in the line of duty.
