Briefly: Stanford and Cornell universities set record-low admit rates

Stanford University announced Wednesday that it had admitted 7.6 percent of applicants to the class of 2013, a figure that includes students from both the early and regular application pools. Stanford accepted 2,300 students this admissions cycle after receiving a record-high 30,428 applications this year, the university announced in a press release. Cornell University received a total of 34,381 applications — the highest number within the Ivy League — and posted an acceptance rate of 19.1 percent, the Cornell Daily Sun reported Wednesday. Cornell’s acceptance rate is the lowest ever for the university but the highest within the Ivy League this year.
