Yale misses chance to clinch, falling 2-0 to Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. — In one fell swoop, Princeton ended the Yale men’s hockey team’s 10-game unbeaten streak on Saturday night and put itself back in the hunt for the ECAC regular season championship.

The No. 10 Tigers (20-7-0, 14-6-0 ECAC) defeated the No. 7 Bulldogs 2-0 in a close contest at Hobey Baker Rink that wasn’t decided until late in the third period. Princeton defenseman Jody Pederson scored a power-play goal on a slap shot from the point just over five minutes into the third period for the game-winner.

Forward Kevin Kaiser added an empty-net insurance goal with less than a minute left to seal the victory for the home team.

A victory would have clinched the Cleary Cup for the Bulldogs (19-6-2, 14-4-2), who now lead Princeton by only two points with two games left in the regular season. Yale hosts Colgate (10-16-6, 5-11-4) and No. 11 Cornell (17-6-4, 12-5-3) next weekend at Ingalls Rink.
