Killing was not a random act, police say

New Haven Police Department Officer Joe Avery said Monday that police believe that Annie Le GRD '13 was targeted and her killing was not a random act.

Avery confirmed that the body was found in a mechanical chase, a compartment in the wall which runs from the basement to the roof which wires and other mechanics run through.

Asked whether police were focusing their attention on a suspected student - as some media reports have suggested - Avery said there are no students involved in the homicide investigation, adding that there are no suspects.

Avery said there will be a statement released this afternoon with more information.

Sad I am hurt for the family as well there is no reason for doing something like this I urge for the family to boy friend to pursue the death penalty once they find out who did this he surely is not going to stick around, I hope they catch this predator!

I hope he gets the same thing that he did to her. He deserves it! As well as his family who raised such a person!

SERIOUSLY. Think about the family and Annie's friends before you post something disgusting like #3. Honor her memory and have faith in the investigation. Information is being released to us as is for a reason. Namely for those involved with the investigation to have the upper hand in trying to find her killer. The person may have taken advantage of Annie, but he or she will be brought to justice.

We're all mourning a great graduate student murdered while performing biomedical research, which results may have saved the world. Your comment is very inappropriate and insensitive.
