Gwathmey archives go to library

The archives of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects, the firm that oversaw the renovations of the Art and Architecture Building, have been donated to the Yale University Library by Bette-Ann Gwathmey, the widow of Charles Gwathmey ARC '62, who died in August of last year. Although the acquisition was confirmed in September, Yale released the official announcement last week.

The firm's archives include drawings, photographs, sketches and letters from roughly 175 projects, including work on Whig Hall at Princeton University and an expansion of Harvard's Fogg Art Museum. Gwathmey and Robert Siegel founded the firm in New York in 1968, and their projects also included a much-praised addition to the Solomon R. Guggenheim museum in New York.

Since January, renowned architect Peter Eisenman has held a professorship in Gwathmey's name, endowed by American fashion designer Ralph Lauren.
