Kagan is a big deal in China
Kagan is a big deal in China
Wednesday, October 6, 2010
If you heard Shelly Kagan does car commercials in Japan à la "Mean Girl" Regina George, you heard wrong — but he is getting big in China, according to an article in the Yale Daily Bulletin.
Thanks to the magic of Open Yale, students across China have begun following lectures from his "Death" class almost obsessively, giving him a sort of cult status throughout the country.
Chinese students, the article explains, are entranced by Kagan's unconventional teaching style. He delivers his lectures in jeans and sneakers, sitting on a table with his legs crossed, much like the "immortal" in Chinese mythology, the article notes.
