Car crash on Elm Street

Three cars were involved in an accident on Elm Street near the corner of Orange Street, shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday night.

Multiple people were taken from the cars to Yale-New Haven Hospital via ambulance while firefighters and policemen tried to clean up the debris scattered down Elm. At least one car was totaled, with its trunk smashed in while the other two cars were lodged side-by-side on the sidewalk against a building, with one car's wheel falling off its axle. The street remains closed while the scene is cleared.
