Franco GRD '16 leaves undergraduate production

Sorry, Yalies: The James Franco GRD '16 undergraduate production will be taking the actor's name off its marquee.

"The Stargazer," a musical co-produced by Franco will not go up this semester as planned, according to a statement e-mailed to the News by director Ari Berkowitz '12. The change is a result of Franco's departure from the show.

"Due to unforeseen challenges, Mr. Franco has ceased to be part of this project," Berkowitz wrote. "This change has necessitated that the current show be re-worked with the hope of a later production date."

According to its Yale Drama Coalition listing, the show was scheduled to be performed April 7 through 9.

OMG! Now maybe you can write about the 6 student-written shows that are actually being produced from now until the end of this semester.

Imagine that. My only question is whether the reality of biting off more than he can chew has dawned on Franco--or just the undergrads.

Why, why, why do these institutions keep letting him advertise patently misrepresentative statements like this? I'm hoping his withdrawal from this project at least means Yale has put the kibosh on his repeated claims that his involvement with this project constituted "teaching a class at Yale."
