Cosi to shut doors
The Cosi hearth will fire up for the last time this weekend.
Cosi, the soup, salad and sandwich restaurant on Elm Street near Ivy Noodle and Bulldog Burrito, will close for good this Sunday. At a table in the subdued and quiet dining area, General Manager Ben Harrison said the business has been hit by economic problems and is struggling with higher bills and a drop in customers.
“Our foot business has been down a great deal, but we’ve still been seeing the Yale students come in, just not as many as before,” Harrison said.
Cosi owners informed the employees early...
This is sad - especially during winter, I looked forward to heading there with friends and grabbing hot chocolate, s'mores, and pizza. I hope the employees are able to find new jobs, too.. it's a rough time to be out of work.
yeah, i liked cosi a lot. they had their flaws like every other restaurant downtown, but overall they were great. i will miss them. too bad they were so far away from the center of campus...
I think the ultimate reason Cosi couldn't keep up was because it did not do a good job of catering to the Yale community. Thursday night, sloppy dance parties in a sandwich shop is a real turn off to me at least.
The food sucked. But I'm sad to see them close.
Don't blame the economy; blame ownership, which could charitably be described as inexperienced (although "clueless" is probably more accurate).
I am so sad!!!!!
