Michael Jones ’11, a member of the Yale College Democrats and the Yale Black Men’s Union, announced Wednesday evening he would run for the Ward 1 aldermanic seat in this fall’s municipal elections.

Jones, a Saybrook College political science major from Winston-Salem, N.C., will campaign for the seat currently held by Rachel Plattus ’09. Plattus, who will graduate from Yale this May, has not yet announced whether she plans to run for a second term, and did not return three requests for comment Wednesday.

No other individuals have announced that they will run for Ward 1...

Many young men of color now will be inspired to run for various political offices throughout the country because of Barack Obama. He has inspired many and given hope to many.

This is such a poorly written article. The author gets Ben's position wrong, he seems ignorant of the Ward 1 endorsement process (will there be a springtime vote of all Ward 1 Democrats?), and the author spends too much talking about the process through which he (seeming) forced Jones to announce his candidacy.

The YDN is the only publication where Yale students can learn about aldermanic or YCC races, but the YDN's abiliity to cover these races in a serious manner seems to diminish every year.
