Without funding, Audubon in limbo

Uncertain economic prospects have cast a cloud of paranoia over Audubon Street, the epicenter of New Haven’s arts scene.

Located off Whitney Avenue, Audubon Street claims to be New Haven’s arts district, home to the Neighborhood Music School, the Creative Arts Workshop and the Education Center for the Arts. With private donations drying up and enrollments dropping, directors of the three organizations said they now anxiously await the outcome of Gov. M. there are a number of errors in this article. larry zukof's name has no c in it and ECA is the EducationAL Center for the Arts. some simple online fact-checking would have helped clear those up.

Earlier this year, Yale Univ Properties refused to renew the leases of at least 2 shops on Audubon St, the bead shop and Sogno. Both moved to the suburbs. Just what we needed, more empty storefronts!

Yale Properties should stop being so uptight and lower their rents, especially in third-tier neighborhoods like Audubon St. I'm surprised the windows haven't been broken yet. Some grafiti is overdue to decorate those ugly brick walls. And the departure of Sweet Relief from the street brings further pain to the neighborhood.
