Tweed to see changes
It took four decades, but expansion for Tweed New Haven Regional Airport was finally approved for liftoff.
After a storied clash between the East Haven and New Haven governments over the embattled airport — and months of mediation between the two parties — East Haven Mayor April Capone Almon and New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr. agreed last week to settle their differences and take the final steps toward Tweed revitalization.
Surrounded by state and local officials at the State Capitol on March 16, the two mayors announced a memorandum of agreement that, among other...
Note to Yale '12: You don't want to see rail service to Bradley. Right now there is currently one track in service on most of the line. Adding a second one would incur a "sizable" cost. Now, consider this scenario: You board at New Haven, then stop to pick up passengers in Hamden, North Haven, Wallingford, Meriden, Berlin and Hartford. Then, when you get to Windsor Locks, you must transfer to a shuttle bus to the airport (extending the line to the airport would also be "costly"). And, if this isn't enough, consider this: Airtrain, the rail service to Kennedy International Airport LOST $21 MILLION last year. 85% of New Haven County is 15% of Bradley's market, roughly 1 million people. Wouldn't you rather see that money stay down here? I sure would.
The imature fighting ends just intime for a contraction in airline travel. This project should have been done atleast 15 years ago. But typically New Haven and its surronding towns act like 3rd world dictators in a border war. If the expansion goes through have the airlines agreed to putting in non-stop flights to places people want to go?
Typically once again city and town officials act like 3rd world junta's having a border war. This project should have been done 15 years ago but know it will be completed as a government make work project. I hope Tweed has talked to the airlines about putting in non-stop flights to places people want to travel to, Chicago, Flordia, Washington.
yes, let's expand tweed, please. this region has the population to support it. as much as i like it here, i'm so sick of being stuck in new haven. we have no reasonable connections to the outside work. as of now, it's super hard to get anywhere. even with metro north - the simple fact that will take you at least 150 minutes to get from campus to a destination in manhattan is severely problematic. that's way too far.
You know, as nice as a bigger Tweed would be, I think this money would be better spent building a reliable, cheap (so not CT Limo) option for passengers to get from New Haven to BDL. How much would it cost to extend Metro-North service to Hartford?
