LIVE BLOG: The second Ward 1 debate
As the April 17 Ward 1 Democratic Endorsement Vote draws near, all three Ward 1 aldermanic candidates — Mike Jones '11, Katie Harrison '11 and Minh Tran '09 — will speak together publicly for the second time tonight in a debate sponsored by the Yale Political Union, the Yale Daily News, Dwight Hall, the Yale College Democrats and the Yale College Council. The debate will be moderated by Paul Bass '82, the editor of the New Haven Independent.

@1,
Because, thankfully, Ward One is not filled with obnoxious right-wingers like you!
I'm glad there's a choice of candidates this year in the Dem Primary. It's a good thing.
@ #1 -- there are a lot of differences. That is the ONE issue which the candidates agree upon.
While an admirable effort, this play-by-play is inherently skewed because it offers only morsels and sound bites that don't do justice to how candidates backed up their talking points. Tran's comments usually did not go deeper than what you see here, or else his initiatives--universal child healthcare?--indicated an ambitiously naive understanding of the nature of the office. The "compliment" on Jones' smile was in response to a question about what each candidate admired in his/her opponents--an opportunity for a sophisticated political move that Tran wasted. Go see a debate yourself, and you'll see who is the most articulate, intelligent, serious candidate.

The Mayor ran back and forth like a runt trying to catch the ball,and play
"'I’m definitely up on the Elm City ID card,' says Katie Harrison. Minh Tran just said it is 'one of the issues we all agree on.'"
Wonderful "choice" we have here. Why exactly do we need an election?
