State Sen. Sam Caligiuri is expected to announce a run for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday in a morning event at his Waterbury home. Caliguiri would be the second Republican to announce an attempt to challenge Sen. Chris Dodd, who has served in the Senate since 1980. Caligiuri has little name recognition throughout the state, as evidenced in a Quinnipiac University Poll released earlier this month, and he trails Dodd in a hypothetical matchup by 13 points with 16 percent undecided.
