Simmons gears up for Senate ‘marathon’

Eating lunch in a corner of the Berkeley College dining hall last week, Rob Simmons, 66, sat calmly. For one who had recently announced his bid to represent Connecticut in the U.S. Senate, challenging an incumbent who has handily won his previous races, Simmons seemed relaxed — especially considering that his last campaign did not end in victory.

“We knew it was coming,” Simmons said pensively of his defeat. He lost by 83 votes.

Liberal though I am, I have actually come to like Simmons. He seems to have at least some integrity, odd for a politician.

Rob's da bomb--and as Senator, you can bet he'd do his best to protect students from such legislative silliness as taxing college endowments.

And, yes, whether you agree with him or not, he has about as much integrity as possible in a politician (certainly more than Dodderer).

And even though he is a Haverford man, he *loves* Yale.
