With eight days until the Ward 1 Democratic Endorsement Vote, it’s still anyone’s race.

In an Internet poll conducted by the News last weekend, 40 percent of respondents who said they are planning to cast a ballot in the Ward 1 endorsement race next week said they have yet to pick a candidate. Of that same group, 27 percent of students said they planned to vote for Katie Harrison ’11. Mike Jones ’11 received 21 percent of votes, and Minh Tran ’09 received 12 percent of votes.

But after a campaign season fraught with canvassing, Twittering, public debates, Facebook...

Harrison in the lead? I'm actually rather surprised. But hey, go Katie!

I'm glad to see lots of people supporting Katie, who understands that the alderman's role is to support the city, not have Yalies running the city.

Go Katie, go!!

Did the 304 students who responded to the poll all say they were planning to vote? Or, do these numbers come from a smaller chunk of that (which is what I would guess)- and if so, how many?

40% is not "most," it's a "plurality."

don't read much into this poll. it's no way scientific at all.

I'm getting VERY worried about this election. If voter turnout isn't strong enough, Katie will be able to take the seat with a small but fiery base of support. She and her supporters are extremely out of touch with the city and what makes sense for New Haven over the long term. Katie has only lived here for two years (not even) -- she needs to be very careful about the tone she is taking, and what messages she is bringing forward to people who have lived here for decades. I've heard from several sources that she is already alienating people in City Hall. The last thing we need is a Ward 1 alderperson who is going to exacerbate, rather than relieve, town-gown tensions!
