Briefly: School Board mandates ‘tier’ structure for new year

New Haven Superintendent of Schools Reginald Mayo presented plans to the Board of Education this week to make the city’s school district the “best urban district in the nation,” as he put it. The plan will divide schools into three tiers, giving top tier schools more flexibility and bottom tier schools more central office support. Concerns from educators remain that the plan does not yet address how school success will be measured and that changes will focus too heavily on teachers and not enough on the Superintendent’s Office.
