Destefano lacks visibility
The name John DeStefano Jr. is all around New Haven — on signs adorning school construction projects, on lawns in the form of campaign signs, in registered voters’ mailboxes.
Despite the nearly ubiquitous presence of the name DeStefano around the city, the mayor struggles with visibility on Yale’s campus, a problem DeStefano admits to readily. In an informal survey of 50 undergraduates in Commons and on Cross Campus over the weekend, 30 said they knew who John DeStefano Jr. is. Still, with tomorrow’s mayoral election not hotly contested, Yalies’ votes are not what matter most,...
Let's face it...the guy didn't attend Yale. Sooo...he doesn't rate.
Mayor DeStefano displayed similar invisibility in his handling of the Tweed-New Haven Airport agreement, all but surrendering to East Haven, all in the name of "regional cooperation." His actions have set back Tweed's goal of self-sufficiency while gaining no respect from East Haven vis-a-vis Tweed. Indeed, several Town Council candidates are campaigning in East Haven with "airport expansion" as a "key" issue. GOP mayoral candidate Finkle has even gone so far to accuse incumbent April Capone Almon of trying to "expand" Tweed by selling surplus land to the Airport Authority. In short, mayor DeStefano has cemented a legacy of mortgaging the future for the present.
DeStefano lacks visibility everywhere except to New Haven politicos and the politically-minded New Haven resident; case in point, his massively failed 2006 CT Gubernatorial attempt. This isn't necessarily a bad thing -- given DeStefano's current [and longstanding] platform, he could only be electable to the position he holds right now in the city he has called home since childhood.
The even bigger flop was his run for Gov in 02, remember henry fernandez was involved. He was officially in that fiasco and thank god it's much forgotten.
So why am i reminding people ?
What's next , adorning school lunch boxes?
He has the next best thing to the magic ring of power, an escape route out of city hall and into the parking garage below.
haha...run the gambit, nice
The term is "run the gamut," not "run the gambit."
