Jones, Morehead win aldermanic seats
New Haven residents elected Saybrugian Mike Jones ’11 as Ward 1 alderman and reelected Greg Morehead in Ward 22.
In the uncontested Ward 1 race, 110 voters turned out to the polling station at the New Haven Free Public Library, 96 of whom voted for Jones, said Ralph Marcarelli GRD ’77, head moderator of the vote counting process. In April, Jones won the Ward 1 Democratic Committee endorsement over Katie Harrison ’11 and Minh Tran ’09. Jones received 49.2 percent, Harrison 36.9 percent and Tran 12.8 percent of the nearly 474 votes cast.

How can someone who runs as a write in have 87 people vote for her at the polls, but 113 absentee ballots? Does that sound off to anyone? I thought absentee ballots were for people that are either disabled or for those that aren't in town on election day? All of those people are disabled or out of town? Something is fishy with Ms. Hopkins campaign. She also had around 39 absentee ballots for the primary, but then jumps to 113 for a write in general election? You figure that out.

"Morehead won decisively at the polls Tuesday night, 215-87. However, an estimated 139 absentee ballots were taken out by the candidates. After those ballots were counted, the final vote was closer: 237-194."
