“The minibus driver thought I was drunk,” Karim said. “Only when I got to YUHS, they realized they couldn’t handle such a serious case.”

Why didn't the friends call an ambulance instead of the slow and slow to respond Yale Shuttle? A bit mad really.

Beware of Atticus Cafe's soups -- sometimes they throw in leftovers from the day before and those are in effect unlisted ingredients. I leanred this the hard way on two different occasions five years apoart, because of a severe eggplant allergy. As I started to get the mouth buzz and throat closing feeling from a spoonful of totally eggplant-free soup (vegetable gumbo sorts of things both times), I asked the server if ratatouille had been on the menu the day before, and the answer was yes both times.

"Dining hall staff are trained, Dougherty explained, to assist students with allergies by reviewing ingredients"

I've yet to meet a dining hall worker that knows what gluten is. If I actually asked for suggestions I'd probably die.

Salads and rice it is. Every day.

Saybrook Dining Hall is really awesome about its gluten free items. All you have to do is speak with the dining hall manager. I have never had a problem, and its nice to be able to eat relatively normally, even being a vegan with celiac.
