Dongguk University fired another volley in the ongoing battle over the Shingate scandal on Thursday, refusing what it described as a settlement offer from Yale that included a public apology, repentant newspaper advertisements all over South Korea and the promise of joint education programs between the two schools.

Yale should not offer things like exchange programs and fall all over itself apologizing in order to appease people who are obviously trying to make this into some grand injustice.

Offer enough money to compensate for Shin's salary/benefits and reasonable administrative expenses incurred as a result the error, plus a little extra "oops we're sorry" money. And offer to place a straightforward admission and apology in a couple of the largest newspapers and in the university paper.

Being slightly more financially generous than this is fine, but Yale should not offer academic concessions for administrative mistakes on principle.

Show some backbone here. The suit is ridiculous. Put Dongguk's reputation on trial here: did it have one to lose in the first place?

Donnguk definitely should go for it. I love that they value a misplaced Yale PhD at more than $100,000. You should too.

As a Korean student, I should say that Jeff (an unregistered user)'s remark about Dongguk University's reputation was unnecessary. This is an online site where even Koreans have free access to the articles; not to mention that we "do" understand every single word here.
