Toad’s open to younger Elis soon
Freshmen and sophomores who have hitherto looked longingly inside Toad’s Place will soon get a chance to experience it.
Starting in January, the popular New Haven nightclub will change its entry policies to allow 19- and 2o-year-olds to be admitted, the club announced in a Sunday e-mail to the student body. Alcoholic beverages will still be served only to those of legal age; Toad’s owner Brian Phelps said the policy change will be accompanied by a redesign of the dance floor — including the addition of a new alcohol service area restricted to patrons 21 and over.

I wonder what prompted this...it's always been my understanding (never having gone nor wanted to go to Toad's myself) that if you do want to go and are underage, it's not that hard. Just borrow a friend's ID who is your race and has your hair and eye color and you're set. I imagine the numbers of patrons who are underage on any given night is around the same as it was in 2005. Are they trying to cover their asses in case they're raided again? Are they hoping to attract more patrons in order to increase revenue because of the economy? I wish the article had answered some of these questions.
