Layoffs to come at SOM

To cope with the University-mandated 7.5 percent cut in total staff salary costs, the School of Management will lay off “a number” of staff while reducing work hours for others, SOM Dean Sharon Oster announced Tuesday.

Staff to be laid off will be notified “shortly,” she said, although University Vice President for Human Resources and Administration Michael Peel said details have not yet been finalized.

I am a student at SOM and I was speaking with a staff member who said that they were frustrated that the announcement came out a few days ago, but nothing has happened. It seems to be causing a lot of staff members to be worried. I would think that if SOM wanted to lay people off, they should do it quickly instead of letting people sit and wonder about their future.

It is rather rotten to let folks know that a specific department has been tagged for layoffs and then not tell the folks in that department any specifics. They should have been the first to know.

are there layoffs at other schools around yale other than SOM. why just SOM.

Like Sergio posted,previous actions are starting to make sense. I'm sure ITS has a list of User ID's to deactivate just waiting for employees to be notified.
