Woodbridge Hall memo: Yale would favor sending ALERT

Staff Reporter

Although both Yale University and Princeton University have similar student and faculty emergency notification systems, they differ on exactly when to utilize them.

At 11:24 p.m. on Friday, March 6, a Princeton University junior saw a man running through campus carting what she said looked like an AK-47, immediately calling Princeton Public Safety, the Daily Princetonian reported. At 11:29 p.m., Public Safety received a second report of similar activity.

Yet for over one hour, most of the Princeton campus remained blissfully unaware of the potential danger. Not until 12:40...

"But if a [student were seen with an AK-47] at Yale, Deputy University Secretary Martha Highsmith said Yale would have handled it differently. Yale, she said, would act quickly using its emergency ALERT system..."

*sniffff*

Smells like bullsh*t, to wit:

"A Calhoun College junior was arrested Monday and suspended from the University after allegedly firing a handgun inside the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house -- leading police to discover a cache of weapons, including an AK-47, in his bedroom."

"Around Yale, Light was widely known as a gun enthusiast, and his large gun collection was not something he tried to keep hidden, students said."

Thanks, Jerome, for another inane comment. Yes, "AK-47" appears in both stories. But is there something that indicates that the administration was aware of but ignored the threat posed by Mr. Light?

To #2:

Was an ALERT sent after Mr. Light fired his weapon inside his fraternity house, as Ms. Highsmith indicated would be the case?
