Yale Law School is still the nation’s premier law school, the U.S. News & World Report announced Thursday. Harvard Law School — headed by U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan until January — remained at No. 2, while Stanford Law School dropped out of a tie with Harvard and slipped to No. 3. U.S. News & World Report said the school’s academic structure, with its flexible pass/fail grade system and only one semester of required courses, kept Yale Law School on top despite several major changes to the magazine’s methodology. The school has yet to fall out of the No. 1 spot since U.S. News & World Report first started to rank law schools 26 years ago. The report comes out exactly a month after President Barack Obama announced the nomination of Yale Law School Dean Harold Hongju Koh as legal adviser to the Department of State.
