Ode to Doodle now passed, forever missed

By Mark J. Schenker
Guest Poet

I just can’t get it through my noodle:

Someone up and yanked The Doodle!

I write as one who found it dandy:

The food was good, and fast, and handy.

And now it’s gone, kit and caboodle?

Is protest foolish, feckless, futile?

They say that economics sank it,

But for one more pig in a blanket

Or one more bacon, egg and cheese,

Some folks would crawl there on their knees,

Pay any price—well, almost any—

To sit where you can’t order penne,

Where so few stools have served so many.
