On Saturday night, about 125 Yale students braved the rain to participate in a “sleepout” on Old Campus as part of an event coordinated by Shelter Now, a student-run organization hoping to keep open a homeless shelter that serves hundreds of people during New Haven’s coldest months. After hearing from speakers and participating in a community sing, about 50 students spent the night in 27 tents pitched on Old Campus. The event raised over $600, said Christopher Lewine ’09, Dwight Hall public relations coordinator.
