Michael Moore hates capitalism
If Michael Moore’s new documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story” were a love song it would be the Black Eyed Peas’ “Where is the Love?”
This is the question that Moore ponders in his newest effort to chronicle the major problems the United States and its government have caused the world. Apparently, capitalism “is just not that into me (or you)” anymore. Harsh, Michael Moore, harsh. Especially since school and my parents taught me that when capitalism slaps me in the face, it’s just because I didn’t try hard enough, and that he still loves me no matter how many times he makes me cry. I...
To clarify about what Professor Berry said, he more clearly and more basically said that Michael Moore hates capitalism because firms are driven by profit rather than goodness of heart; they care only about themselves. He says that it would be silly for firms not to care about profit that is their goal.
That said, I hate this division that everyone makes between "firms" and "people." Oh, isn't it great to hate firms and love people? Therefore, we hate those corporations that don't care for us. The truth is that (almost all) of these corporations are faceless precisely because they are owned by a multitude of people. We have nobody to "blame" but ourselves. We own stock in companies, we invest in our economy, and we expect positive returns.
The answer perhaps is more disturbing that either Moore or Lee (the author) poses. That big faceless corporation that would rather lay off a hardworking worker struggling to feed his family. That's us. All of us. And we're not doing it for an extra $40,000 per year. We're doing it for a penny.
And no government regulation can make us less selfish.
Haven't seen the film yet, but your review is very interesting; balanced and it 'felt' real. Thank you for-Real-ness!
