The men’s basketball team will try to secure at least a share of fourth place in the Ivy League this coming weekend when the Bulldogs round out their season — and the careers of captain Alex Zampier ’10, Josh Davis ’10, Paul Nelson ’10 and Jordan Gibson ’10. The Elis (11–8, 5–7 Ivy) wrap up the season against Columbia (10–16, 4–8) on Friday night, followed by Saturday’s Senior Night against conference-leader Cornell (25–4, 11–1).

The women’s basketball team may be out of the Ivy League title hunt, but the Bulldogs still have some work to do to have their best Ivy League finish since the 1992-’93 season. The Elis (12–14, 7–5 Ivy) will head on the road to take on the Columbia Lions (16–10, 7–5) on Friday and the Cornell Big Red (7–18, 2–10) on Saturday.

With a disappointing last-place finish in the Ivy League’s Rolfe Division last season, the baseball team is looking forward to a fresh start this spring, as they kick off their season at Maryland-Baltimore County this coming weekend. The team ended the 2008-’09 season with a 13–24 record, including a 7–13 performance in the Ivy League, tying Columbia for second to last in the conference and only beating out Penn (5–15).

The Yale gymnastics team finished fourth behind Cornell, Brown and Penn at the Ivy League Classic in Providence, R.I., over the weekend. The Elis scored a 187.500, while Cornell finished first with a 192.550 to defend its 2009 title.

M. SWIMMING | Yale finishes third at Ivies

Perennial powers Harvard, Princeton and Yale battled it out for best in the Ivy League on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the women’s swimming Ivy League Championships in Cambridge, Mass. Although the Elis finished in third place behind the Tigers and the Crimson — the same place Yale earned in last year’s championships — the Bulldogs were much closer this year: They tallied 1,350 points in the meet — only 88 behind Harvard and 115 behind Princeton — after having fallen to the two teams by 296 and 545.5 points, respectively, in 2009.
