Song: Packers fans still love Favre

What does betrayal feel like? Just ask the entire state of Wisconsin.
I don’t want to be the 746,123,582,783th person to weigh in on this, but after watching Brett Favre’s first and (hopefully, though probably not) last return to Green Bay since giving the finger to the people of the Cheese State, I feel compelled to be the 746,123,582,784th person to weigh in on this. Let’s face it, unless you’ve been living in a cave Saddam-style for the past few years (or decade), you know who Brett Favre is. Even my mom, never one to be accused of proficiency in American culture or the English...

I think one needs to be a Wisconsinite or Minnesotan to truly understand how deep this Viking/Packer rivalry really runs...

Well written and outstanding article, John! It's truly one of the best I have read in a while. Anything that delves into the true psyche of fans is great, and I think you hit it on the head.

You should post your article on Bleacher Report if your paper will let you. I hope you don't take that as an insult, for I understand that anybody can write an article on there. But your quality article is just what many people look for on there.

I wrote an article on B/R giving my take on Favre's betrayed status. Hope you don't mind the plug, but I'd appreciate any comments or criticisms on it if you had time. It's entitled: "Why Packers Fans' "Betrayed" Mentality Regarding Brett Favre Is Irrational"

Thanks again for a great read, John.

john, i woke up this morning and felt like you wrote the article just for me...i'm a chinese stiles alum (nice mom reference, btw), and married a wisconsin boy who grew up on the minnesota border. we both read your article and couldn't agree more. everything you said is true. and probably the most memorable thing i've ever read in the ydn.

Your wisconsin roommate sounds like the coolest guy ever. I would totally feed him cheese.

I think you just described everything all of us cheeseheads/packer fans feel and cannot put words on. Being a Packer fan is one of the greatest things in the world!
...and as #2 says...that rivalry is intense (and the irony that Favre always played like s*t in MN)

great article.

Really, really good job John. As a Wisconsinite and Yalie, this describes exactly how I felt on Sunday. Go Packers, and go Favre!

You have done a great job capturing both packer fans and my brother. Thank you for that!

I'm ashamed of your Wisconsin friend. How dare he still have feelings for that bad man.
