Bulldogs easily paddle past Huskies at home

In the last home meet of the season, the Bulldogs sank their local opponents. The men’s and women’s swim teams both defeated UConn on Saturday in a meet that honored the seniors in their career home finale. The men’s squad took first in 13 of the 16 events to win 199-99, and the women’s team won 164.5-133.5.

Elis fall to Ivy foes before conference championships

The Bulldogs hosted both Harvard and Princeton this weekend, only to be defeated by both in their home pool. The men’s team fell to Harvard, 125.5-227.5, and to Princeton, 140-213. The dual meet brought the Elis their first two conference losses of the season. The women’s team did not fair much better, also losing to both the Tigers and the Crimson.

Bulldogs look to dominate HYP

In preparation for HYP, which kicks off tonight, many members of the men’s team shaved for the meet, teammates said. Harvard and Princeton bring undefeated Ivy League records for the season in both men and women’s competition.

Tanned, sore and ready to swim again

The Bulldogs spent their vacations down in the Caribbean vigorously practicing and preparing for their upcoming seasons. Upon their return, the teams traveled to Annapolis, Md., to compete against Navy and Ivy League foe Cornell. The women’s team dominated the competition, beating Cornell, 219-81, and the Naval Academy, 174-126. The men fell to the Navy team, 141-159, but defeated Cornell, 167.5-132.5, to remain undefeated in conference competition.

Intensive training in San Juan on tap

The annual Puerto Rico trip will be no vacation for the Bulldogs as they prepare for upcoming Ivy League competition. One meet remains before the men’s and women’s swim teams escape to San Juan for intensive training leading up to the Ancient Eight schedule.

National stage, big success for Righi ’09

In a meet that featured the likes of six-time Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps, Yale’s top swimmer made his own wake. In the Short Course National Championships held in Atlanta, four members of the women’s and five of the men’s team qualified to compete in the highly competitive event, but only Alex Righi ’09 contributed to Yale’s fifth place finish, earning all of Yale’s 35.50 points himself.

Brief: Volleyball drops three matches at Long Beach St. tournament

Although the weekend ended with three losses, the volleyball team completed yet another season with a winning record. For the fifth-straight season under head coach Erin Appleman, the Bulldogs won at least 16 of their matches.

Righi ’09 sets meet record at Nike Cup

Demonstrating their depth, both the men and women’s swim teams split over the weekend to compete in two separate meets. One men’s squad headed down to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Nike Cup and the other traveled to Boston for the Terrier Invitational. The Bulldogs placed fifth in a pool of seven teams in the tournament down south with 340 points. In the competition among five schools in Boston, the Elis nabbed the second place spot, scoring 905 points.

Elis finish Ivy play, beat Brown 3-1

After a tough couple of weeks that included two disappointing losses to Cornell and Princeton, the volleyball team closed out Ivy play by taking down Brown last night. The Bulldogs (16-7, 10-4 Ivy) trekked to Providence, R.I., for their only midweek match of the season and defeated the Bears (7-17, 5-9), 30-25, 26-30, 30-18, 30-27. Yale also won, 3-0, in the two teams’ first face-off early in the season, but the Bears showed improvements that made the second match more difficult, players said

Men’s swimming bests Columbia and SCSU

After a preseason full of preparation, the men’s and women’s swim teams finally got their feet wet over the weekend. Both squads traveled to New York to compete against Columbia for their first meets of the season. The men started off strongly by defeating the Lions, 164-136, placing first in nine of the 16 events. The women lost the opener, 173-127, but still captured first place in five of their events.
