City sees business resurgence

When Stop & Shop opened for business last Friday, it capped off a year of resurgent business climate and heightened leasing interest for University Properties and the city as a whole. Abigail Rider, the director of University Properties, said the recession led Yale’s holdings to feel a “bit of a dry spell,” but she said new tenants will be coming in the next few months. Kelly Murphy, the city’s economic development administrator, said the city has seen its taxable property grow by 3 percent — the highest growth rate in the state. And at least 100 businesses have opened throughout the city each year, she added.

With Stop & Shop now just blocks away from campus, the Yale College Council is bidding farewell its Supermarket Shuttle service.

After delay, Rudy’s to reopen next month

Rudy’s, a tavern that occupied the same Elm Street building for 76 years, will reopen on the corner of Chapel and Howe in early May, nearly a year after it closed its doors last summer. And while rumors have swirled that longtime Chapel Street haunt Richter’s will shutter its doors in the coming weeks, its owner said the bar will remain open at least through Commencement weekend and until the end of summer.
