Salsified
Every Yalie wishes he had more style and flair on the dance floor. Last fall, Matthew Kozlark studied under local salsa master Alisa Bowens and began his transformation.
This fall, I started heading down to the House of Salsa on weeknights to meet Alisa, “la morena que baile salsa,” for myself. I sat in on some private lessons, skulked around the studio, and then signed up for a few classes. In terms of ability, I was what Alisa might describe as “beginner, beginner, beginner,” meaning that my shimmy was less of a shimmy and more of a shudder.
