Independent candidates barred from checking votes
Last Thursday, New Haven Democratic registrar of voters, Sharon Ferrucci, turned down a request by Kerekes to place vote-checkers at polling venues on November 8. The request, according to Ferrucci, was not a personal decision, but rather a procedural matter based on a many years-old law. The legislation, Connecticut General Statute 9-235, essentially bars independent candidates from posting vote-checkers, and will also affect both Yale undergraduates running for Ward 1 Alderman.
