Schwalb: Torn between emotion and reason

I find that when Israel goes to war, I stop reading the newspaper. When I open the paper, I get physically sick. As a Jewish American, I feel torn and confused. On one hand, I feel cornered by a war I cannot morally support. On the other hand I have sympathy and passion for the country fighting it. I suspect I am not alone in feeling this way.

Schwalb: Better use of a great power

Congress, you may remember from A.P. U.S. History, has power of the purse. Though “power of the purse” may sound like the lamest superpower ever, it’s actually a real-life power. And it’s about as cool as any superpower, since, unlike heat-vision, it actually exists. But our non-super representatives do a pretty bad job at wielding it.

Schwalb: Is the craziness limited to Yale?

I think my freshman seminar is starting to mess with my head. I have been awake now for 31 hours and 26 minutes. The sky is outside is gray. The air is chilly, but not cold. I just ate, but I was not hungry. I am on my bed now, but I am not sleeping. I have been awake now for 31 hours and 28 minutes, and I think my freshman seminar is starting to mess my head.

Schwalb: Dealing with the hangover

The stock market has a hangover. It stayed out late with friends. They met some trashy mortgages at Toad’s and some CEOs did a few things they’re not proud of.
