As a sophomore in high school, Yale wide receiver Chris Smith ’13 was a mere 130 pounds, a measly five-feet five-inches tall and bench pressed just 130 pounds. Disappointed that he had not made varsity football that year, Smith was determined to make it with the best athletes in his town, Midlothian, Va., where he said football is everything.

In last weekend’s Yale Invitational, Polan received co-MVP for the tournament and was named Ivy League Player of the Week. Off the field but not out to lunch

For his twelfth birthday, Caleb Smith ’11, a tight end on the football team, received a video camera and caught the film making bug. He decied to major in film studies at Yale, but because of his commitemnt to football, he was not able to produce a film. That changed after football season ended when he began producing his first major film, The Belly of the Whale, which he wrote and directed with the support of many of his teammates. In fact, for other senior athletes the end of a season gives them an opportunity to pursue new activities.
