Making the most of Yale: one senior’s advice
Yale is a community that thrives on institutional memory. There is rarely anything you will encounter in New Haven that someone did not experience before you at this 306-year-old university. But this knowledge should not be limited to those who knew in advance to ask for it. What follows is a top-10 list of things I wished someone had told me as a Yale freshman.
Burning flag is ultimate form of disrespect
I am a proud Democrat, but I am sorry: You do not burn a flag in my backyard (so to speak) and get it written off as just another act of drunken vandalism. While the legal specifics are pending, the apologetic and even apathetic response from the overly liberal student body is representative of the reason why, Barack or not, Democrats will have a hard time winning in 2008 unless they can prove to that silent majority of Americans somewhere in the Midwest and the South that they are damn proud to
If societies pass you over, life still goes on
So if you do not get tapped in a couple of weeks, hear these words from a seasoned vet. First, you are not alone. In fact, you are in the majority. Commercial recalls old tensions for NFL
While the consensus was that this year’s Super Bowl commercials paled in comparison to last year’s, one commercial was notable for a different reason. This one, the “Coca-Cola Black History Timeline,” was more than inappropriate — it was disrespectful and misleading.
Despite flaws, Hillary has swayed this voter
I believe Clinton has the requisite experience and proven record for the job. She has come down hard on the present administration on Iraq, has advocated universal health care and was the main supporter of making the emergency contraceptive Plan B available over the counter. These are concrete plans and achievements.
Committee should keep post-break calendar
The two weeks we have after Thanksgiving are not merely accidental, but instead the result of a complex formula. The calendar gods have to be happy and the scheduling stars have to align just right for Yale to start on the first Wednesday of September instead of the last Wednesday of August.
YCC board congratulates its new treasurer
After interviewing seven extremely qualified candidates to fill the recently vacated office of Yale College Council treasurer, the YCC Executive Board is proud to announce its newest officer, David Roosth ’09.
10 reasons why The Game is still worth it
Wandering around the biggest Yale-Princeton tailgate in years, I realized that something anti-Yale is in the air: People are serious about not going to Cambridge this weekend.
