The women’s field hockey team pulled out yet another overtime win Sunday, overcoming a 1–0 deficit with just five minutes left in regulation to take down the Columbia Lions 2–1 in overtime and improve their season record to 11–5, 5–1 in Ivy League play.
PHILADELPHIA — The Yale women’s field hockey team gutted out another tough Ivy League win Sunday, overcoming an unorthodox playing surface and questionable officiating to steal a 3–2 overtime win from Penn at Franklin Field.
This year’s field hockey edition of the Quinnipiac-Yale rivalry may have been an ugly win for the Bulldogs (9–5, 3–1 Ivy), but thanks to a postgame scoring change, the story of the day was senior midfielder Katie Cantore ’10. Cantore tallied her 15th assist of the season (in addition to her first goal of the season), making her Yale’s all-time single-season leader.
Dinah Landshut ’12 came to Yale from Hamburg, Germany, and immediately stood out as a forward on the field hockey team. With six goals, Landshut is the season’s second-highest scorer. Yale field hockey’s win against Holy Cross came at an opportune time, boosting morale for the previously winless Bulldogs before they open Ivy League play against Harvard this upcoming Saturday.

With the loss overshadowing an intense preseason, yesterday’s match against Providence College was to be the start of a new year. But the Bulldog field hockey season opened disappointingly with a 5-0 loss as the Friars improved their record to 3-1.
Sunday at 1 p.m., the field hockey team will open their 2008-’09 season on the road against Providence.
After heavy rains led to the cancellation of last Friday’s match against Columbia (10-6, 4-2 Ivy), the Bulldogs (7-9, 2-4) trekked down to New York once again on Tuesday to face the Lions. But the match ended in a dispiriting 3-1 loss, leaving the Elis stuck in sixth place in the Ancient Eight.
With the season rapidly drawing to a close, the field hockey team heads south to New York City for a game that could determine whether it has a chance at a winning record for 2007.
Lindroth needs a little caffeine to give her that edge. As the second leading scorer on the field hockey team, Lindroth displays an unparalleled intensity in every aspect of the game and during team workouts as a model for her teammates, coach Pam Stuper said.
